New JFK book examines teen years of former president
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – On what would have been President John F. Kennedy’s 105th birthday, a new book was released about his teenage years.
The new book, called “JFK & the Muckers of Choate,” is the latest offering from former Harvard and Emerson professor Scott Badler. It examines Jack’s time at The Choate Boarding School in Wallingford, Connecticut.
Nearly a two-year time period in Jack’s life as a teenager is told through firsthand accounts. As Badler writes that these were often turbulent times for the teenage Jack.
He was sometimes bullied and tormented. The headmaster at Choate referred to some students who didn’t follow his orders as “muckers.”
Jack ran with that name and in fact turned it into a club.
“Even at this time here he was the leader of this Mucker’s group,” Badler told ABC 6 News. “He had these 12 Muckers following him around campus and doing what he wanted to do.”
“So, that led to the problems with the head master. But he had this charisma at a very early stage. That famous Kennedy wit is definitely evident in the book. I found it in letters, so that’s something you see in the book and his presidency,” Badler continued.
JFK & the Muckers of Choate is on sale now wherever you but your books.
