Health officials say hepatitis A outbreak potentially linked to strawberries

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health said a hepatitis A outbreak in the United States and Canada is potentially linked to strawberries.
The Department of Health said the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating multi-state outbreak in both countries. The outbreak is being connected to fresh and organic strawberries.
“The strawberries were sold under the brand name FreshKampo and HEB and were sold between March 5, 2022, and April 25, 2022,” the Department of Health said.
Those strawberries were sold at the following locations:
- Aldi
- HEB
- Kroger
- Safeway
- Sprouts Farmers Market
- Trader Joe’s
- Walmart
- Weis Markets
- WinCo Foods
The Department of Health is asking anyone that has the potentially affected strawberries to throw them away.
Some of the symptoms of hepatitis A include fatigue, nausea, and dark urine.
So far, health officials said there have been no reported illnesses in Rhode Island associated with this outbreak.
