WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Sen. Jack Reed and Congressman Jim Langevin were joined by state and local leaders at a ground breaking ceremony for the redevelopment of the Arctic Mill in West Warwick.

Reed and Langevin were joined by West Warwick Town Manager Col. Mark Knott, as well as other community partners.

“The transformation taking place at Arctic Mills is a win-win for our state as it’s expanding rental housing options while also preserving a significant piece of our state’s history,” said Langevin.

The Arctic Mill redevelopment will create 136 new rental units, 105 of which will be rented at the market rate. The other 31 units will be for households earning between 80% and 100% of Area Median Income.

“I’m pleased that this project will utilize federal investments to breathe new life into this historic property and do so in a way that will ensure more working families can afford a place to live and new businesses can find a place to thrive,” said Reed.

The ceremony was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
