PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee spoke at a ceremony Tuesday celebrating the United States Army’s 274th birthday.

McKee was joined by army members at the State House.

“Every day, but especially today, we honor your 247 years of dedicated service,” McKee said in a tweet.

“More than a year before the Declaration of Independence — the U.S. Army has played a vital role in the growth and development of the American nation,” according to the U.S. Army website. “In the face of a pandemic, natural disasters, and supporting contingency operations around the world, Army Soldiers have performed above and beyond.”

The U.S. Army was established in 1775.
