NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — The New Shoreham Police Department is warning residents of an increase in overdoses.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, police said there has been an uptick on Block Island in the past couple of weeks.

Police are reminding residents of the following:

  • If a pill didn’t come from a pharmacy, it’s not real.
  • Don’t take any prescribed medicine that’s not in your name.
  • Know how to use Naloxone in case of an emergency.

Naxolone, also known as Narcan, is a medicine that can stop opioid overdoses.
