Aviation company has history of accidents

WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — Saturday’s emergency landing in Kingstown is not the first time a plane has gone down from Simmons Aviation Services.

National Transportation Safety Board accident reports show three other planes registered to Simmons went down in recent years.

A similar plane towing a banner experienced total engine failure and went down in the waters off Narragansett in 2016.

Another plane also lost engine power and crashed in the Atlantic near Block Island in 2012.

And yet another engine failure sent a plane down in the ocean in 2009.

Fortunately everyone involved in these accidents survived.

But the NTSB reports reveal a disturbing pattern.

ABC6 went to Simmons Aviation, based in a hangar at Westerly State Airport, but there was no comment from the owner.

The FAA is still investigating Saturday’s accident, which was likely related to the foggy conditions.
