Fireworks celebrations scheduled for 4th of July weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Southern New England is getting ready to celebrate America’s birthday this coming weekend with fireworks celebrations.

Below is a list of fireworks displays happening across Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts.

RHODE ISLAND:

• Bristol
  • July 3, at Bristol Harbor, 9:30 p.m.
• Coventry
  • July 4, at Johnson Pond, 9:30 p.m.
• Cumberland
  • July 3, off of Mendon Road, 9 p.m.
• East Providence
  • July 3, Pierce Memorial Field, 9 p.m.
• Jamestown
  • July 3, fireworks will start “at dark”
• Narragansett
  • July 2, fireworks will start “at dusk”
• Newport
  • July 3, at Newport Harbor, 9:15 p.m.
• New Shoreham
  • July 4, at Crescent Beach, 9 p.m.
• North Kingstown
  • July 3, at Town Beach, fireworks will start after live band
• North Providence
  • July 3, at Twin River Beach, 9 p.m.
• North Smithfield

The American Red Cross said that public fireworks shows are the safest way to enjoy fireworks.

Anyone setting off fireworks at home is asked to follow safety steps:

• Never give fireworks to small children, and never throw or point a firework toward people, animals, vehicles, structures or flammable materials. Always follow the instructions on the packaging.
• Keep a supply of water close by as a precaution.
• Make sure the person lighting fireworks always wears eye protection.
• Light only one firework at a time and never attempt to relight “a dud.”
• Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from children and pets.
