A 9-year-old from Middletown just won a national baseball competition. The pitch, hit and run competition at the MLB All-star Game brings children from across the country together to compete for the title of their age group.

It was a very busy week for Alex Clemmey, who not only one the competition for his age group, he also threw the first pitch at the Paw Sox game Friday night, and celebrated his 9th birthday.

He and his family including younger brother Patrick, spent the early part of the week in Minneapolis for the All-star game events. Alex explains the details of his competition, “I hit 0 for 6 in the pitching, then I ran 8.88 seconds, then I hit the ball 145 feet.”

Clemmey beat out two other finalists nationally, after already winning a state-wide competition at McCoy, and a sectional competition at Fenway.
