Cranston Police Arrest Man for DUI Following Crash with Police Car

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE): Randi Ruzzo, 30, from Cranston was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs after he crashed into a Cranston Police car, according to police.
The Cranston Police Department said that around 1:48 a.m. on Thursday, a marked police car was traveling east on Wayland Avenue, responding to a non-emergency call.
Ruzzo failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Wayland and Preston Avenue, causing the officer to hit him, according to police.
As a result, Ruzzo’s vehicle flipped over on its side. The Cranston Fire Department used the jaws of life to get Ruzzo from the car.
Both the officer and Ruzzo received non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the Rhode Island Hospital.
Ruzzo refused a blood test after a Cranston Police Officer said he displayed signs associated with drug/alcohol impairment.
Ruzzo will be arraigned in the 3rd District Court in Warwick on July 25th.
