WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — A man was killed in a motorcycle wreck in Westerly Tuesday night.

The crash happened just after 9 p.m. on Weekapaug Road, just before Cove Road.

Police Chief Paul Gingerella said the driver lost control of his motorcycle and ran off the road.

The chief said the Westerly man was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

He said a preliminary investigation showed that the man was driving with a person on another motorcycle prior to losing control, noting the second person left the scene.

Gingerella added they had a crash in the same area about two weeks ago.

Police are expected to remain on scene for a couple of more hours.
