PAWTUCKET, RI (WLNE) – After a candidate search for two certified lifeguards to maintain operations at a Pawtucket community pool, the city has announced the pool will open Saturday, July 6 at 11 a.m.
“We are pleased to announce that the pool will be open for the public, especially our youth,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “I appreciate Parks and Recreation’s efforts to fill the positions in less than a week after the prior lifeguards had backed out, and thank everyone who stepped up in assisting with finding qualified lifeguards to keep our residents safe while they cool off in the hot summer days.”
The Veteran’s Memorial Park Pool will be open 7 days a week from July 6 till Sunday, Aug. 18.
However, the pool will be closed July 9, 10, 17, and 18 because of scheduling conflicts with the lifeguards.
The city’s parks and recreation department is working on possible alternatives to open on these dates.
“We are excited to get the community pool up and running,” said Recreation Manager John Blais. “Thank you to all for your positive community support and outreach, which helped us hire the right, qualified lifeguards. This is a testament to the great people who live in the neighborhood.”
Here is pool’s schedule this summer:
- Monday: Noon – 5 p.m.
- Tuesday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Wednesday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Thursday: Noon – 5 p.m.
- Friday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Saturday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Sunday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The pool will be a part of Aramark’s Free Summer Food Service Program.
Weather permitting, free lunches will be served from Monday to Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the days the pool is open with the expectation of Monday, Aug. 12.
