EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — East Providence police said Monday that a man involved in a hit-and-run over the weekend admitted to driving drunk.

The two-car crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Newman Avenue and Bishop Avenue.

Police said one driver was taken to the hospital from minor injuries sustained in the crash.

The other driver, identified as 60-year-old David Shaw, fled the scene, according to police.

Police found Shaw’s car parked in his driveway with major front end damage and smoking.

Police said Shaw admitted to striking the other car and driving his car home. He also admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the crash.

Shaw is facing charges for driving under the influence of alcohol, duty to stop in an accident resulting in injury, resisting arrest, obstructing an officer in execution of duty, and disorderly conduct.
