Motorcyclist killed in crash involving garbage truck in Newport
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a garbage truck in Newport Friday morning.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. in the area of Memorial Boulevard and Cliff Avenue.
Police Lt. April Amaral identified the motorcyclist as a 35-year-old Tiverton man. The names of those involved in the crash were not immediately released.
A resident told ABC 6 News that the road and intersection are known for being extremely dangerous. The man said he lost his friend just two years ago when he was riding his moped.
“I had a real dear friend and he was coming down Memorial Boulevard I believe it was the next intersection of Rhode Island avenue and downhill traffic was coming through, and it was all backed up, and someone let him through, to get through, and a car came across and that was that,” Tom Darby, a Middletown resident who travels that road every day said.
No further information was released.
