PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Police say the suspect connected to the ‘PVDfest’ shots fired incident turned himself in on Monday.
Michael Robertson allegedly fired five shots in the air just after 11:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8 in the area of Washington and Union Streets.
“First thought was – those are not fireworks,” said witness Mike Ryan.
Four days later, Providence Police said they had identified the alleged shooter.
“We are actively seeking his apprehension,” said Commissioner of Providence Public Safety, Steven Pare on July 12.
Police say Robertson has a prior arrest on narcotics charges.
He was arraigned today in Providence District Court on charges of possessing a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence or a fugitive from justice, carrying a pistol or revolver without a license or permit, and firing in a compact area.
“I’m glad that they got him,” said Ryan. “I’d like to know what was really happening and what was going through his mind.”
He is currently being held on bail and is due back in court on September 23.
Police do not believe he intended to hurt anyone.
