WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – A Rhode Island health center will offer free HIV testing services at three of its locations in recognition of National HIV Testing Day.
On Thursday, June 27, Thundermist Health Center will offer free testing at any of their three Convenient Care locations in Wakefield, Woonsocket, and West Warwick from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
“Early detection of HIV is important to ensure the best health outcomes and to limit transmission of the virus,” said Sapna Chowdhry, MD, medical director of Thundermist Health Center of Woonsocket and an infectious disease specialist. “We invite all Rhode Islanders to take advantage of this opportunity for free testing.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care. They say approximately one in seven people who have HIV are unaware that they have it.
The confidential testing will be offered on a walk-in basis.
