Dartmouth police arrest two men accused of stealing vehicle

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) — Dartmouth police said that they arrested two men who are accused of stealing a car Sunday night.

Police said that an officer saw a Mercury Sable driving without its lights on at about 9:30 p.m. The officer flashed his lights to try and signal for the driver to turn on his lights, but he did not.

The Sable, which police determined to be stolen from Raynham, then took off down Rogers Street, which is a dead end. After reaching the dead end, the two suspects inside of the vehicle took off towards adjacent properties.

Officers set up a perimeter at the scene and began to search for the two men.

Police eventually tracked down 19-year-old Calvin Rosa and 21-year-old Malik Cannon, both of New Bedford and arrested them. Rosa had been driving the vehicle, Cannon was the passenger.

The department said that Rosa was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and a motor vehicle lights violation.

He also had six outstanding warrants related to assault and battery, receiving stolen property, and drugs.

Cannon was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle. He had an outstanding warrant for possession of a machine gun.
