PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The owner of Palagis Ice Cream, Alex Arteaga, started refurbishing a vintage yellow truck.

The truck is currently being painted with other changes to follow.

Arteaga told  ABC 6 News that the truck should be ready by January, and will be used for display on Palagis’ patio at 55 Bacon St.

Palagis Ice Cream has been around since 1896, and Arteaga has been the owner for the past 24 years.

Rhode Islanders have many positive memories of Palagis Ice Cream trucks.

Arteaga said, “It’s a big deal. All the wonderful things it has been, and what it has become. I feel joy from knowing this place can give people happy moments and memories. Knowing you have something to do with the memories makes you feel good.”

Anyone who’s interested in visiting the location, Palagis is hosting a free screening of “E.T.” at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 3.
