CONCORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A man is accused of driving a stolen Rhode Island car and crashing into three Massachusetts State Police cruisers.

State police said that the 2008 Dodge Charger was spotted driving on Interstate 190 north just before 3 a.m. Wednesday in Sterling.

A trooper tried to stop the Charger, but the driver took off and led the trooper on a chase.

“Other troopers deployed tire deflation devices ahead of the vehicle’s route of flight. The Charger hit the stingers and its tires were deflated but it suspect continued to flee onto Route 2 eastbound,” state police explained.

The Charger continued to drive away from troopers for 21 miles on flat tires, said police. They were eventually able to box the driver in on Route 2 in Concord.

“While bringing the pursuit to a controlled stop, three cruisers were struck and damaged by the suspect vehicle as the suspect continued (unsuccessfully) to try to avoid apprehension,” state police said.

The man was then arrested and taken to the Holden Barracks for booking.

No further information was immediately released.
