Climate activists threaten to disrupt morning commute in Boston

BOSTON (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation warned commuters Wednesday that a group of climate activists that threatened to disrupt travel in Boston during the morning commute.

The group gathered at Post Office Square to raise attention for what they call a climate emergency and to pressure state lawmakers to ban new fossil fuel infrastructure.

The protest began around 7 a.m., as the group blocked several major traffic routes throughout the city.

Shortly after, Massachusetts State Police arrested five people on the ramp from Leverett Circle to Route 93 in Boston.

No further information was released.
