Leron Porter found guilty in murder of Tiphany Tallo

Leron Porter was found guilty of the
murder of 17-year-old Tiphany Tallo.

Porter was convicted Friday after a
month-long trial in which the State presented 30 witnesses.

On May 9, 2011, Porter and some of
his family members, along with two female friends, drove to the Tallo's home on
Spruce Street
in Providence. They wanted to confront Tiphany's sister, Ashley, over an
argument she had with Leron's sister Denissa.

Witnesses say that soon after,
Denissa and Ashley started getting into a physical fight, and Leron knocked
Ashley to the ground with his handgun. Then, some of the Porter family started
to stab Ashley with a knife and beat her with a bat.

At that point, Tiphany came out to
help her sister and was shot in the chest and killed by Leron.

Leron and his family took off but were arrested by police soon afterwards.

Leron was found guilty of one count of
second degree murder; discharge of a firearm while committing a crime of
violence, death resulting; and possession of a firearm after previously
being convicted of a crime of violence.

At the time of the murder, Porter was on supervised
federal parole after serving 7.5 years for a federal firearms violation.
He was released on April 30, 2011, just days before murdering Tiphany Tallo.
