P-Bruins Put Freeze on the Ice Caps

P-Bruins news release…

rovidence, RI– The Providence
Bruins
 defeated the St. John's IceCaps 5-2 Sunday
afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts CenterSeth
Griffith, Joe Morrow
and Nick
Johnson
each had a goal and Matt
Fraser
scored twice for the P-Bruins, while Niklas
Svedberg
recorded 32 saves earning the victory.

The first period started off and turned out to be a very physical period with
the P-Bruins scoring the lone goal from Griffith
at the 9:09 mark, his third of the season.  The goal was assisted by Matt Lindblad and
David Warsofsky.  Providence went
into the first intermission leading 1-0.

 

The physicality continued to come from both
teams in the second period.  Providence
kept the pressure on the IceCaps with multiple chances in the first few minutes
and a close call from Craig Cunningham, who fired a shot that hit the
post.  Soon after the P-Bruins capitalized
with a beautiful goal in front of the net from Fraser at the 8:04 mark, his fourth of the season, to give the
P-Bruins a 2-0 victory.  The goal was
assisted by both Ryan Spooner and Zach Trotman.  The IceCaps got on the board with a goal at
the 17:51 mark from their captain Jason Jaffray, his third goal of the season, while Andrew Gordon and Kris
Fredheim
picked up the assists. 
Providence went into the second intermission leading 2-1. 

 

Providence came out quickly in the third
period burying a power play goal fifty seconds in, setting the pace for the
last period.  The goal was scored by Fraser for his second of the night and
fifth of the season, with Spooner and
Morrow getting the assists.  The P-Bruins added their second power play
goal of the evening at the 5:36 mark.  Morrow tallied his second goal
of the season, while Cunningham and
Ben Youds recorded the assists. 
The IceCaps pulled back
within a couple of goals at the 8:35 mark when Eric O'Dell scored his
fifth goal of the season.  Will O'Neill
and J.C. Lipon had the assists. 
The P-Bruins finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at the
19:30 mark.  Johnson
scored his sixth goal of the season, unassisted, as the P-Bruins
went onto the 5-2 victory. 


Svedberg stopped 32 of 34 shots for
the P-Bruins, while Eddie Pasquale
made 35 saves for the IceCaps.  Providence
was 2-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
