PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The American Heart Association launched a state-wide stroke-awareness initiative Thursday with a public display at the Providence place Mall.
The series is a partnership between the Southern New England American Heart Association and Rhode Island Medical Imaging.
The bright red letters spelled out “FAST” (Face, arm, speech, time) an acronym that teaches the warning signs of a stroke and what people should do if they see someone having one.
If someone’s face is drooping, arms are weak or numb, and/or speech is slurring, it could be time to call 911.
Strokes are the number five killer of men and women in the United States, and are the leading cause of disability.
