The mass shooting at a Colorado movie theatre has many people questioning their own safety. The Dark Knight Rises is highly anticipated Summer blockbuster, many with plans to see it, so what now? Are you safe at the theater? Do you change your plans?
We spoke with a few people outside Providence Place Mall.
“It could have happened to me, you don't know, you don't know what's going to happen,” said Linzy Cote.
Cote shudders, knowing that while she sat in a Midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Rhode Island, people with the same eagerness to see the superhero thriller's first showing in Colorado, were part of a real life nightmare.
It's especially frightening for Tabitha Almeida, who works at the theatre in Providence Place Mall.
“It terrified me, my father woke me up and told me about the news,” explained Almeida.
Almeida worked the Midnight showing at Showcase Cinemas in Providence Place and says many theatres were sold out. On her way in to work, she tells us she expects even more people to turn out for the movie Today. Thinking about the terror still unraveling in Colorado, has her on edge.
“It's getting to the point that I feel like your going to have to wear body armour every second of your life. How do you know that something like that is going to happen, that's terrifying,” said Almeida.
Despite what happened at the Aurora Movie Theatre, Jake Beauchaine says he will use his ticket later today.
“Is it a tragedy yes, is it going to affect the way I go see movies, of course not, I'm not going to let one deranged guy who thinks he's the joker ruin my movie experience, ruin my experience at life, no way,” said Beauchaine.
We contacted Showcase Cinemas to see if they were making any security changes due to the Colorado shooting.
They released this statement:
“While we are very sorry to hear about the tragedy in Colorado, we feel it is not our place to comment on the situation. For the safety of our patrons and staff we do not discuss our internal security measures.”
