MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island health officials are telling residents not to swim at the Atlantic Beach Club beach in Middletown because of high bacteria counts.
Officials at the state's health department recommended the beach closure Friday.
The health department will reopen the beaches to swimming when bacteria counts return to safe levels.
The state regularly tests the water at public beaches during the summer season to make sure that it's safe for swimming.
