Local congressional delegation reacts to end of Mueller investigation

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Now that the Mueller investigation is complete, Democrats across the board calling for the full report — not just a summary — to be made public.

“I believe that this issue is too important for there not to be full transparency,” said Congressman Jim Langevin. (D) Rhode Island.

“The American people have a right to see the full contents of this report,” said Congressman David Cicilline, (D) Rhode Island. “And it is my hope that the attorney general will agree and move quickly to release the contents of the report.”

Congressman Cicilline dismisses the possibility of the White House getting a preview.

“The report belongs to the American people,” he said. “It would be highly unusual to allow someone who is the subject of an investigation to get a chance to look at it and limit the public’s knowledge about what’s in it.”

But the congressman says he’s a bit surprised there will be no further indictments.

“That is not to say there will not be additional indictments from the Department of Justice or the Southern District of New York, or as a result of Congressional Oversight,” Cicilline said. “So I’m not sure this is the complete story yet.”

Both Langevin and Cicilline say they’re not concerned that President Trump has called Mueller’s credibility into question.

“I believe Director Mueller to be someone of great integrity, someone who respects the rule of law,” Langevin said. “I believe that he conducted a very thorough and full investigation.”

In statements, Senator Whitehouse and Senator Reed are also calling for the full release of the Mueller report.
