PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – The general assembly voted 64-8 approving legislation that would allow mobile sports wagering through the Twin River casinos in Lincoln and Tiverton.
“This revenue, along with the revenue we anticipate from an expansion to mobile gaming is a tremendous benefit to the state,” said Speaker of the House Nicholas Mattiello.
The legislation would enable the creation of an app consumers could use to access the sports gaming offerings at Twin River from anyplace within the parameters of the state.
Consumers must initially set up their accounts in person at Twin River, and thereafter be able to place a wager from anywhere in the state. They must physically be in the state of Rhode Island in order to place a wager.
The app would utilize technology to determine the location of any person placing a wager, and will not accept wagers from outside the state’s boundaries.
The measure now moves to the governor’s office.
