‘Let’s Go Celtics’: Massachusetts drive-in hosts historic Game 7 watch party
MENDON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Mendon Twin Drive-In hosted hundreds of Boston Celtics fans on Monday to see Game 7 against the Miami Heat on the big screen.
Cars arrived in droves for a unique way to watch their hometown team regardless of the outcome.
“We could at least force a Game 7, so to even have the chance to be the first team to come all the way back, it is enough for all of these people to come out here and have a good time and at least watch the game,” Timothy Blakeney told ABC 6 News.
Many fans were excited to experience the thrill of the game with others.
“It reminds me of when you go tailgating, like, when you go to the Patriots game but now you get to see it on the big screen, it is free to get in and you just have to pay for food, which is great. It is like being at the Garden. Everyone is hear yelling having a good time,” said John Chesley and Crystal King.
Fans held onto hope, despite the rocky start to the series.
“I never doubted them, just like the Sox in ’04,” Lucas Tatro said.
Ty Sullivan shared the same sentiment.
“They were down 2-0 I still had hope, they were down 3-0 I still had hope,” Sullivan said. “I am never going to give up on my team.”
The Celtics are the fourth team in NBA history to force a Game 7 after losing the first three games of a seven game playoff series.
