Officials Meet to Discuss Home Heating Help

Advocates from the George Wiley Center met with officials from the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources today to try to make progress on getting struggling residents heating help.

Two weeks ago ABC6's Operation Warm Home began investigating stories of Rhode Islanders lost in a sea of red tape and suffering without heat, and we partnered with Petro Oil to connect some of those families to people who wanted to help.

Today the George Wiley staff identified communication is the biggest problem in getting folks the help they need – many families complained that it was impossible to even get someone at the office on the phone.  Two other issues were changes in federal guidelines regarding paperwork people need to submit for help, and funding.

ABC6 Reporter John Guice was at the meeting and has an update.
