Commuters should seek alternate routes this weekend for Route 6 closure

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has Route 6 east at Route 10 north in Providence closed this weekend as part of Route 6/10 Interchange project.
Access to the Route 6/10 Connector inbound to the city will be closed and the changes should last until 6 a.m. on Monday.
Travelers can avoid the construction and any delays caused by it via alternate routes.
Commuters in Smithfield and other communities in northwestern Rhode Island should use Interstate 295 to Route 146 south to Providence.
Meanwhile commuters in Western Cranston, Scituate and other communities further west can use Route 37 east to Interstate 95 north to Providence.
Finally, commuters in Johnston, North Providence and Cranston can take major local roadways that lead into Providence.
Route 10 north at the Route 6/10 interchange will also be reduced to one lane.
The department said the $410 million Route 6/10 Interchange project is critical to link travel between Interstate 295, 95, and 195.
