PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha said Monday a Cumberland man was charged with a litany of gun and drug offenses after his arrest back in February.

According to court documents, 42-year-old Alex Parfitt is charged with the following:

  • One count of possession between 35 ounces and 135 ounces with intent to deliver marijuana
  • One count of possession with intent to distribute psilocin
  • One count of possession with intent to deliver THC
  • Four counts of possession of a firearm while possessing with intent to deliver controlled substances
  • 10 counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence
  • Six counts of possession of a large capacity feeding device

  • One count of obstructing an officer

According to Cumberland police, they responded to a domestic disturbance on West Wrentham Road at 7 p.m. on Jan. 14.

When officials arrived, they said the victim told them Parfitt was throwing her belongings and putting out cigarettes on her bed. Officers learned Parfitt was in violation of a no contact order and he later fled on foot.

The victim also told police Parfitt was storing illegal guns in a bathroom of their home and in a safe in the home. Police said they seized six handguns from the home without a warrant.

After returning with a warrant, officials said they further seized two shotguns, two semi-automatic rifles and several large-capacity magazines including two 30-round magazines.

Police later searched another safe in the home, from which they seized one bag containing 20 oz. of psilocybin mushrooms, more than five pounds of marijuana, $8,375 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

Parfitt is scheduled for a pre-arraignment hearing on July 12 in Providence County Superior Court.
