Providence police capture suspect in weekend homicide

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police arrested the suspect who is accused of fatally shooting a 19-year-old over the weekend.

An ABC 6 News viewer submitted video that shows police arresting 19-year-old Kevin Giron at an apartment on Union Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

Giron was named as a person of interest in connection to the killing of 19-year-old Juan Carlos Morales on Valley Street by Donigan Park on Saturday night.

Police surrounded a home on Hudson Street where they believed Giron was staying earlier this week.

Providence police shared this previous booking photo of Kevin Giron.

Giron was considered armed and dangerous, as police didn’t recover a weapon at the scene.

The shooting marked the city’s sixth homicide of the year.

Mayor Brett Smiley and Perez said information regarding the arrest will be released Thursday morning.
