Rhode Island State Police arrest man for drug, firearms possession

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police said they arrested a Providence man on drug and gun charges.

Edwin Torres was arrested on Tuesday after the execution of a warrant that alleged he was involved with fentanyl distribution.

Torres, who is 46 years old, was found to be in possession of a Bersa .380 semi-automatic pistol, a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber pistol, 2282 grams of fentanyl, 23 grams of fentanyl pressed into pills, 189 grams of cocaine, and $38,120 in cash.

He was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of firearms by certain persons prohibited, and alteration of marks of identification on firearms, among several other charges.

The state police said he was arraigned and held without bail at the Adult Correctional Facility pending future court dates.
