South Kingstown celebrates 300th Anniversary with parade

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — South Kingstown held a parade Saturday to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the town’s founding.
The festivities began with a synchronized chorus of bells at 10 a.m. from the Church of the Ascension, First Church of God Peace Dale, Peace Dale Congregation, St. Francis Church, Wakefield Baptist Church, and the town hall.
The parade then stepped off from the intersection of School and Holley Streets and ended at the town hall.
The parade featured nine divisions of floats, bands, and vehicles to celebrate the community’s long history.
A post-parade picnic was also held at the Saugatucket Veterans Park and included live music performances from local groups.
The Ocean State Waves, a member of the New England College Baseball League, will play against the Newport Gulls in a free baseball game this evening at Old Mountain Field.
