Truck gets ‘storrowed’ by Massachusetts overpass
BOSTON (WLNE) — A furniture truck had its roof ripped apart while trying to drive beneath a low overpass Monday afternoon on Storrow Drive.
The truck’s roof was “storrowed” when it attempted to traverse below the road. The term “storrowed” refers to this particular overpass’ notoriety for damaging large truck that pass underneath.
Video shared by WCVB Channel 5 shows the roof of the truck ripped off like a lid on a can. Massachusetts State Police blocked the Fenway exit to traffic as officials worked to determine how to remove the damaged truck.
A sign below the bridge said it had a maximum clearance height of 10 feet, 6 inches.
Trucks and commercial vehicles are banned from Storrow Drive due to the low heights of most of the overpasses on the road that parallels the Charles River.
The truck was from Regency Furniture Showrooms, which has an outlet store in Dedham, Massachusetts.
