CODAC breaks ground on site of new care center for addiction treatment services

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – CODAC Behavioral Healthcare leaders broke ground on the site of a new integrated care center on Tuesday.

Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse secured $1.5 million in two federal earmarks to help the company which specializes in addiction treatment.

President and CEO Linda Hurley took people on a tour of the building that will be a space for healing environments like psychiatric care and primary care as well as behavioral health care.

Officials said a “holistic” approach to helping those struggling with addiction is beneficial for their mental health as they recover.

The Rhode Island Department of Health said 434 people died of accidental overdoses in Rhode Island last year. Of those fatalities, 75% were connected to fentanyl.

CODAC has treatment centers in Cranston, Providence, Pawtucket, Saunderstown, Newport, East Providence, and Warwick.
