Police identify 61-year-old man killed in Cranston head-on crash

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston police released the name of the man who was killed in a head-on crash Monday night.
According to police, at approximately 8:49 p.m., two work-vans collided head-on in the eastbound lane on Scituate Avenue. One of the vans was being used by a Massachusetts healthcare supplier of compressed oxygen.
Police said the driver of the van, used by Life Supply Corporation, was 61-year-old Garrison Gonzales of Leominster.
He was removed from the scene and later died at a nearby hospital.
The passenger with Gonzales and the driver of the other van sustained non-life threatening injuries, officials said. There is no indication of driver impairment at this time.

The Cranston Police Department shared this photo of the oxygen tanks in the back of the medical supply van.
The van was carrying 44 oxygen cylinders, including three 100lb containers, one 300lb container and eight 10lb containers.
Officials said the three 100lb canisters were leaking as a result of the crash.
They were removed from the van before further investigation could continue. Authorities said any spark or flame could’ve ignited the oxygen.
The crash remains under investigation.
