OSCARS 2019: “Vault” to be released this summer

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — The mafia movie “Vault” is now finished and ready for its summer premiere.

“It’s been a year now, we’re ready to watch this thing,” say Tom DeNucci, the writer and director of the film.

Vault is based on real events about a group of low–level crooks who pulled off the biggest heist in American history.

“They stole from the legendary crime boss Raymond Patriarca and of course they got off with all of the money and to this day it still hasn’t been recovered,” says DeNucci, a Cranston native.

The production of the film ended up being a community wide effort.

“A lot of the buildings haven’t changed. The people were so excited to get involved and open their doors up to us, hand over locations and period cars that match the1970s and we got a ton of extras and a lot of really quality local actors too,” he says.

“They spent 18 days filming the movie, most of it right here in Rhode Island. 85% of the film was shot inside the iconic Superman Building.

“The story is so big it’s for everybody to see so we didn’t want to make it so specific to Rhode Island but there’s certainly a nod to our hometown,” says DeNucci.

DeNucci was there as they edited the film on Martha’s Vineyard and now they’re tying up loose ends on the deal with the entertainment company Lionsgate.

This isn’t a typical mafia movie, mixed in with the action is a love story and even the chance to laugh.

“We got a lot of comedic scenes in the final cut which I’m excited about,” says DeNucci.

Rhode Islanders can expect a release here at home this summer.
