Warwick police search for pair who broke into Little League concession stand
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Police in Warwick are investigating a break-in at a baseball snack shack early Thursday morning.
Warwick North Little League staff told ABC 6 News they watched hours of surveillance footage, trying to catch a glimpse of two teenagers who broke into their concession stand around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.
“We were provided some information this morning just from Facebook posts. Last evening and this morning, we were able to, I believe, identify the male suspect, and I was able to call the police department this morning,” said the president of the league, Sean Wiggins.
Wiggins says that’s all thanks to community members coming together to help figure this out.
League Secretary and Coach Eric Shields said many of the staff members played baseball at the league and now their kids do, too.
“So, even going back further, I actually played Little League here growing up. I actually grew up on this street about a half mile down the road,” Shields said.
“So, this is like my Little League. And now, I’m coaching my son. My other son is looking to kind of rejoin, so it’s got that sense of community, that family atmosphere, and it truly is disappointing that someone would do this,” he said.
It only took a day to get the window patched up with community help. Children were back on the field almost immediately.
“We had a Tee-ball game under the lights last night, so we had a lot of people here, and I don’t think anybody really questioned what was going on. But again, many people looking to…how can I help, what do you need?” Shields said.
“And then again tonight, we’re coming back. We’ve got a 5:30 All-Star game, we’ve got a 7:30 All-Star game, games on the little field. So, we’ll be packed again tonight,” Shields added.
Wiggins says they’re still looking for help identifying the other person in the photos. The league plans on pressing charges.
