PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department announced the death of one of its Mounted Command Equines.

Salute, who was a Clydesdale born on May 17, 2013, was partnered with Patrolman Jose Mendez for six years.

Commanding Officer of the PPD Mounted Command Bureau Sgt. Steven Courville said that Salute patrolled the city during funerals, parades, tours at the stables, and at various community events.

Salute stood at 21 hands tall and weighed 2,200 pounds and is survived by his four stablemates Charlie, Reilly, Thunder, and Prince, who are also Clydesdales.

Courville said that Salute will be forever missed.
