Boston man deemed dangerous after attacking woman in Dorchester
BOSTON (WLNE) — A Boston man was found dangerous and held in State custody after he was charged with attacking a woman who he said did not say good morning to him, the Suffolk County District Attorney said Tuesday.
According to court documents, 33-year-old Ian Atkinson, of Dorchester, was charged last week with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Officials said at about 9 a.m. on July 13, Boston police responded to Balsam Street in Dorchester where the victim told officers she was watering her lawn when a man, unknown to her but later identified as Atkinson walked by and cursed at her for not saying good morning.
The victim subsequently began recording Atkinson with her phone as she said she was fearful after his aggressive remark. It is alleged that Atkinson, who had entered a black Mercedes nearby, exited the car and began punching the victim.
Home security video obtained by police shows Atkinson punch the victim at least seven times in the hear, then shows him returning to the car, putting it in reverse, then swerving in the victim’s direction before driving away.
The victim was taken to Carney Hospital where officials said she suffered a fractured nose and a subconjunctival hemorrhage to her left eye. She also told police she was able to bite Atkinson’s shoulder during the attack.
The victim was also able to capture Atkinson’s license plate on video and noticed that he was also wearing what appeared to be a GPS tracking device.
Police ran the plate the victim gave them which lead them to Atkinson’s address on Lucerne Street. They further determined Atkinson was determined to be the person from the victim’s video.
Atkinson was found dangerous during his hearing on Tuesday and was ordered to be held for 120 days.
He is expected to return to court in September.
