Fall River apartment fire displaces 5, sends officer to the hospital

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – An apartment fire on South Main street in Fall River Saturday morning displaced several people and sent one to the hospital.

The fire broke out around 11:30, and was contained to the second and third floor of the building.

District Fire Chief Jason Poissant told ABC6 on scene that five people were displaced, and Red Cross is assisting them.

He said all of the units inside the apartment building were damaged. It took crews around 20 minutes to knock down the fire.

A police officer was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

One occupant suffered hand burns. There were no serious injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
