RIDOT to shift lanes on two state bridges Friday night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that two bridges on Route 146 will have their lanes shifted Friday night.
Hawkins Street Bridge in Providence and Breakneck Hill Road Bridge in Lincoln will have traffic shifted overnight to allow work.
Concrete repairs are taking place on the Providence bridge, while the Lincoln bridge will be replaced by the end of the project.
Northbound travel lanes on Hawkins Street Bridge will be shifted to the right, in a change from their current location to the left of the bridge.
The southbound travel lanes will be similarly shifted in mid-August.
RIDOT said that travel lanes will also be shifted to the right on Breakneck Hill Road Bridge to create a work zone in the median.
Traffic coming onto either Route 146 North or South will have to come to a full stop at the end of the on-ramps before merging onto the highway travel lanes.
The lane shifts in Providence will be in place until the end of the year, while the shifts in Lincoln will be in place until the project itself ends and the bridge is replaced.
The department added that all work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
