High school students design police battering ram prototype

FRANKLIN, Mass. (WLNE) – Thanks to the efforts of a group of local students, Massachusetts State Police could soon be adding some new tools to their arsenal.

Three students from the Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School built 13 battering rams for the State Police SWAT team.

The goal was to design a lighter and smaller battering ram that could be used by a single officer, and could be easily moved in a police vehicle.

And it looks like other departments are already expressing interest in the design.

“Franklin Police and a few other police have been in touch with us since,” said Robert Pierangeli of Tri-County Metal Fabrication. “They would like to get some made too because of the size and the weight.”

Each battering ram cost the school $50 to produce.

They’re serving as prototypes so State Police can see if this new tool works for their troopers.
