NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — One man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with burns after a boat exploded in North Kingstown Friday night.

The man, who was the owner of the boat, was taken to Providence Hospital for treatment, but his condition and the severity of his burns was unknown.

According to the North Kingstown Battalion Chief, Matthew Kennett, the boat exploded in the parking lot of the Long Point Boat Ramp in Wilson Park around 8:21 p.m.

Firefighters, police, the state fire marshal and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management officers were on the scene investigating.

Officials on scene tell ABC 6 that DEM Hazmat was called out to make sure fire foam used in the initial response did not make its way into the water.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, with more information expected over the weekend.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information is released.
