University Orthopedics hosts hundreds for ‘Fall Sports Exam Day’

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Hundreds of families showed up to University Orthopedics for its free Fall Sports Exam day in East Providence.

The event was open to all student athletes participating in up to collegiate-level sports to make sure they’re safe before embarking on their next season.

Andrew Chen, an MD at University Orthopedics explained that even if their exam shows something of concern, patients can easily be connected to a primary care provider in their area following their visit.

“We have physical therapists, we have hand therapists, athletic trainers, physicians — we have everyone here to just kind of come together, work as a team and make the flow of seeing hundreds of kids this morning go really smoothly — and a lot of parents seem to really like having this available for them,” Chen explained.

The event was slated to be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday but ended up staying open until 1 p.m. to accommodate the hundreds of kids and families coming for their check-ups.
