WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Executive Director of Corporate Communications at CVS confirmed the company will be terminating more than 500 employees who work at its Rhode Island-based offices.

According to CVS, there are 198 positions in its Woonsocket and Cumberland corporate offices that are impacted by the terminations.

A WARN (Worker Adjustment And Retraining Notification) was sent to more than 500 employees because the lay-offs also include employees who work remotely in other states but report to the Rhode Island offices.

The job reductions, according to CVS, are effective October 21. Some will be announced on later dates this year.

The company said their employee count in Rhode Island will be approximately 7,500 people. Approximately 5,000 non-customer facing positions are impacted.
