RAYNHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Raynham Police Department announced Friday that they’ve appointed a new Chief of Police following the retirement of Chief James Donovan.

The department said David LaPlante was appointed Chief of Police and sworn in on Tuesday.

Chief LaPlante has over 26 years of law enforcement experience in Raynham including 11 years in a supervisory role. He is also a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran.

LaPlante began his career as an enforcement officer in Raynham back in 1996, then served as a detective beginning in 2001.

Since 2015, Chief LaPlante served the department as a lieutenant. While in that role, the department said he initiated and implemented their state accreditation program, and designed a police cadet program for the department.

“It is an honor to be selected as the new Raynham Police Chief,” said Chief LaPlante. “I take great pride in the opportunity to serve in this role and I look forward to strengthening the relationships our department has built with the Raynham community.”
