Meet the Candidates: Spencer Dickinson

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — ABC 6 News spoke with Democratic candidate for the 1st Congressional District special election, Spencer Dickinson on Friday.

A former state representative and former candidate for governor, Dickinson said as a conservative-leaning Democrat, he believes having a program is key to solving issues on all levels, federal and local.

“One of the key points of being conservative is understanding economics, and one of the problems I have with progressives is that they don’t seem to understand economics, they have an emotional argument to make and like to bring people over, but they don’t really have a plan that’s going to work. I think you’ve got to have a program that’s going to get something done, whatever issue you’re facing,” Dickinson said.

The special election for the 1st Congressional District seat to replace former Rep. David Cicilline will take place on Sept. 5.
