CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) — The former Central Falls Boy Scout leader who was indicted for sexually assaulting a minor was released on bail Friday.

Attorney General’s Office Director of Communications Brian Hodge said that Michael Chalk, who is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, was released on Friday after posting $100,000 surety bail.

Hodge said that this went against the AG’s request to hold Chalk without bail.

The state alleges that between 1982 and 1984, Chalk was an adult leader in a local Boy Scout troop in Central Falls who assaulted a youth member of the troop.

It is further alleged that the assaults took place at St. Matthews Church, where the troop held their meetings.

Hodge said that Chalk was also given a no-contact order with the victim as a condition of his release.

In 1999, Chalk was tried and convicted of several counts of first-degree child molestation and sexual assault against three boy victims and sentenced to serve 20 years at the ACI, followed by a 20-year suspended sentence.

Officials said those victims were also members of the Boy Scout troop.

Chalk is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Oct. 26.
