NEW BEDFORD, R.I. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said that a repeat offender was arrested for possessing a handgun.

Spokesperson Scott Carola said that Josue DaSilva was charged with illegally carrying a firearm with a high-capacity magazine.

Detectives were searching for DaSilva on Aug. 23 to serve him with an arrest warrant for removing his GPS anklet a week earlier.

Carola said that detectives spotted DaSilva  in Harrington Park, where he placed an object into his car when he noticed the police.

When police put him in custody and searched the car, they found a .45 caliber Glock handgun loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.

Carola said DaSilva was previously arrested in 2022 for carrying a 9mm handgun loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition in his jacket.

That case was later dismissed.
